Total number of places per year? (approximately) 18
Area possibilities? We mostly have community placements now, but working on recruiting more research, hospital, and industry host sites across the country. In general, the student would be working from 4-8 hours a day for 4-5 days a week.
Length of training periods? Training periods are usually one month, but can be flexible upon request.
Available months and cities ? SEP mainly occurs from May-Sept, with most in July-Sept. Canada is a huge country and we provide placements from coast to coast with each placement being a unique experience.
The type of accommodation? The type & cost of accommodation depends on city & the host site. Transportation and accommodations are at the cost of the student. Housing can be up to $800 CAD/month(500 EU) but we are continuously looking for more affordable options.
Board, pocket money or other financial benefits/ remuneration? Students will not be paid a salary, but the employer may chose to provide pocket money and/or accommodations. This is not guaranteed though, and will vary between host sites.
Social events? We try to have multiple students in the same city at the same time arrange weekly social events for them.
Language requirements? Strong English skills are necessary. Since Canada is a multicultural country, other spoken languages are a benefit and will help you in the selection process.
Other requirements for the student? No minimum year required
Information on Work Permits and Visa? Please check the website below if students from your country require a visiting visa to participate in SEP: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/visas.asp I will be happy to provide you with a letter of invitation to take part in the exchange in Canada however, you will be responsible for submitting your application for the visa.
Selection Procedures? To ensure you get a placement this summer, please have your application in by March 2008. We may accept applications after this date so send them even if the deadline has past. Employers request to see multiple CVs and motivational letters, and the host pharmacist will choose the student who they think will be the best fit for their site.
Special remarks? We encourage you all to apply! Best of luck :)
