Welcome to the land of gold! Thank you for considering Ghana as your preferred destination for SEP. Placements mostly in community pharmacies and in Research/Academia Currently, Hospital and Industry placements may be hard to come buy due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Students would work under pharmacists in these areas.

In the community pharmacies, students dispense, counsel patients and intervene when necessary under the supervision of a pharmacist

In the Hospital pharmacies, students are involved in patient counseling, intervention, as well as dispensing.

In the pharmaceutical industries, Students are involved in drug formulation processes and quality control

For Research The areas of interest are: Pharmaceutics Pharmaceutical Microbiology Pharmacology Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Pharmacognosy. Here, students assist lecturers, Professors and Graduate students in research in any of these fields.

Length of training periods

Training period lasts between One(1) to Three months(3) Students may have to arrange with the SEO if they wish to stay for longer periods.

Available months and cities

The exchange can take place from January to December as we participate in both winter and summer SEP. Accra and Kumasi are the cities available for placement.

Type accommodation

Accommodation is most likely to be with a host family or a hostel depending on students preference and time of application.

Students would have to pay for their own accommodation if they are to be in a hostel. It is advisable that students secure their accommodation through the SEO before arrival. Accommodation in Ghana is very affordable per night on the average (about 15USD per day). The SEO would help you find the safest and most affordable place to stay. You will feel at home.

Board, pocket money or other financial benefits/remuneration

All transportation costs would be catered for by the students. Students must provide their own pocket money. Provision of pocket money depends on the host Students must have enough money on them since there are a lot of interesting places to visit. Remuneration cannot be guaranteed.

A lab coat and notepad. British National Formulary would be useful although most pharmacies have them.

Information on Work Permits and Visa

This varies depending on country of origin. Students do not need a working visa. All they need is a visiting visa. The SEO will send students an invitation letter and any other documents necessary for visa acquisition. (The invitation letter is recommended even if you don't need a visa to avoid problems at customs)
