We mostly provide internships in community pharmacy and research. Some internships in biochemical analysis laboratories and hospitals may also be available. Industry internships are very difficult to get, so we do not commit to industry internships.
Length of training periods
The majority of the internships last for 2 weeks, but the duration can range from 2 weeks to 1 month. The duration depends on the host city, type of internship and personal requests of the applicant.
You are welcome to stay with us for a longer period than the duration of your internship! We kindly request you share this information with APEF, Portugal LEOs.

Coimbra - Community Pharmacy, Research and Biochemical Analysis (2 weeks)
Covilhã - Community Pharmacy, Hospital and Research (2 weeks)
Faro - Research (from 2 weeks to 1 month)
Lisboa - Community Pharmacy and Research (from 2 weeks to 1 month)
Porto - Community Pharmacy and Research (2 weeks)
We receive students from June to September, however, August has fewer places and July has more places.
Depending on the host, the internships can be more than 1 month.
We will try to accommodate students in dormitories and the price will be approximately 5€-10€ per night, during the internship period. Be aware that, if special housing conditions are needed due to religious, physical or other restraints, the SEO should be warned in advance.
If there is no possibility of dormitory placements, we are willing to assist the student in finding other options, such as an Airbnb or a hostel. Please note that, in such cases, the accommodation price will be higher, according to the student's preferences.
Board, pocket money or other financial benefits/remuneration
No remuneration or pocket money is provided. Students are expected to cover all of their expenses including but not limited to accommodation, social activities, food and travels.
Knowledge of the English language is required for all the internship areas. For research, Hospital and Biochemical analysis, we give preference to students who have, at least, an upper-intermediate level of English.
Knowledge of basic Portuguese words is highly appreciated for everyday communication.
The student will be asked to sign a COVID-19 Annex to the Waiver Of Liability to be able to make SEP in Portugal.
Travel Requirements: In Portugal, are authorized connections to and from the European Union, countries associated with the Schengen Area (Liechtenstein, Norway, Iceland and Switzerland) as well as the United Kingdom and the United Kingdom.
All passengers, whether national or foreign, are required to:
- Present proof of test to COVID-19, with a negative result, carried out in the last 72 hours before departure. or 48 hours (in the case of the rapid antigen test (Trag)), prior to boarding: OR
- Displaying EU Digital Certificate (https://www.sns24.gov.pt/guia/certificado-digital-covid-da-ue/)
- Fulfilling isolation for 14 days, at home or in place to determine by the health authority, coming from countries with an incidence rate equal to or greater than 500 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants in the last 14 days; These rules are also applicable to entry through terrestrial or maritime boundaries.
The listing of countries that meet these criteria is revised and updated every 15 days.

In the case of travelling without having a negative test to COVID-19, citizens:
- Nationals, foreigners with legal residence in Portugal and diplomatic personnel accredited in Portugal: must carry out the test on arrival, at the airport, and the costs of the test are the passenger's own;
- Foreigners: entry into Portugal is not permitted, supporting the company that transported you the cost of returning to the country of origin on the first flight and subject to payment of a fine;

Information on Work Permits and Visa
No Visa for EU residents.
Non-EU residents should get a Schengen Visa. Contact your embassy as soon as possible for more information as this is a process that still takes some time to be done. You should apply for the Visa at least 1 month before your flight. If needed, the SEO will assist you throughout the visa procedure and will provide you with an Invitation Letter.
